12/15/09 MOVING AWAY FROM, AND BACK TO GOD

MOVING AWAY FROM, AND BACK TO GOD
(notes from a lesson I gave the children)
Our Society has not only Moved Away From God, it has Raised Obstructions To Returning To God.

Children use to be more spiritually responsive to God.

Returning to God is the same as always.

Isaiah 55:6-7
vs. 6  Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

dlg notes on vs. 6...
Seek ye the LORD...
When children get lost, they look for parents (and parents look for children).
There is Desperation in Separation.
To be separated (from parent) is to be lost (removed from safety) and endangered (become prey to bad people).

...while he may be found...
LONG SEPARATION REDUCES CHANCE OF RESTORATION.
Time puts distance between lost and parent.
Distance reduces effectiveness of parent's call.
Seconds turn into minutes, which turn into hours, which turn into days, etc.

...call ye upon him while he is near:
RECOGNIZE LOST CONDITION AND GOD'S SALVATION.
We cannot allow ourselves to lose site of our parent. Regardless of the sounds and sights that demand our attention.
Do not presume that you will eventually return to God, because, God's Spirit does not strive with man always.
vs. 7  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

dlg notes on vs. 7...
Let the wicked forsake his way...
The wicked person is the person who chooses a different way than the way God requires.
We are lost because we have been disobedient.
Those who are away from God do wicked things.
The WICKED SHOULD TURN FROM SIN.

...and the unrighteous man his thoughts...
The Unrighteous man is the Same as the Wicked.
People can have wicked thoughts as well as wicked actions. We need to surrender our thoughts to God's control.

...and let him return unto the LORD...
As children must turn from the toys and friends and attractions to go back to a parent, so we must TURN FROM SIN and TURN TO GOD.

...and he will have mercy upon him...
As parents love children, even when they do wrong, so GOD LOVES US, EVEN WHEN WE HAVE DONE WRONG.

...and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Parents are glad to forgive a lost child's disobedience. God will forgive those who turn to Him.
