10/24/09 CHRISTIANS CAN FALL

CHRISTIANS CAN FALL
Here is an excerpt from my note, CAN CHRISTIANS BE DECEIVED? This particular part of the note points out that not only can believers be deceived, they can fall. This is important today because there is the popular, but erroneous, belief that a person cannot fall from salvation. Here is a short article addressing that question.

Christians can Fall.
1 Corinthians 10:12

(12) Wherefore let him that thinks thinks he stands take he lest he fall.

Christians can fall Away from Christ.
Luke 8:13
(13) They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

Christians can fall from Grace.
Galatians. 5:4
(4) Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace..

Christians can fall into Condemnation.
1 Timothy 3:6
(6) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Christians can fall into Destruction and Perdition.
1 Timothy 6:9
(9) But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

Christians can fall into Unbelief.
Hebrews 4:11
(11) Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Christians can fall from Salvation.
Hebrews 6:4-6
(4) For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
(5) And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
(6) If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Christians can fall from Steadfastness into Sin.
2 Peter 3:17
(17) Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

AN EXAMPLE (vss 6, 11-12)
A WARNING (vss. 7-10)
A PROMISE (vs. 13).

1 Corinthians 10:6-13
6) Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7) Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8) Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9) Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10) Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11) Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12) Wherefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
13) There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
